Study in USA: On one hand, China has overtaken India in the matter of sending students to American universities in 2023-24. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have left other states of the country far behind in sending the maximum number of students to America within India. According to the data released by the US Consulate General, Hyderabad, 56 percent of the total students who went to the US from across the country are from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Telangana first, Andhra second
According to statistics, among the students who got US study visa, maximum 34 percent are from Telangana while 22 percent are from Andhra. At the same time, the number of American students in Indian educational institutions has increased by more than 300 percent. Hyderabad’s US Consulate Chief Rebecca Drame and Public Affairs Officer Alexander McLaren said that in 2023, about 3.30 lakh Indian students went to America to study, out of which about 1.80 lakh students belong to Andhra and Telangana.
Staff has to be increased
The American Consul Chief says that so many visas have not been processed in any consulate working in India. He told that in the last one and a half year, the staff in Hyderabad office alone has been doubled. There are plans to increase this by 3 times by 2025 so that it becomes easier to process the upcoming visa applications.
1600 visas are being processed every day
According to the information, about 1600 visas are being processed every day in the US Consulate, with the help of which Indian youth are fulfilling their dream of studying in America. A target has been set to increase this number to 2.5 thousand by February next year.
12 thousand more interviews have been conducted since 2023
According to statistics, in 2023, that Consulate had conducted 35000 interviews for summer student visa. At the same time, till now more than 47000 students have been interviewed for student visa in 2024. That means till now 12 thousand more visa interviews have taken place than last year.
H-1B program is becoming an important link
Rebecca Drem says that the increase in study visas in the US is also happening because America has made a lot of changes in its visa standards, especially for Indian students. The H-1B Domestic Revalidation Program has played a big role in this. Under this program, Indian students do not need to return to India to renew their visa. This is the reason that in the last 3 months alone, the visas of 10 thousand youth living in the US with H-1B visa have been renewed by giving them an appointment in the US itself.
